CLIVE MANDIVEI made the difference for Dynamos when he scored against his former paymasters Yadah Stars at Rufaro yesterday to help the Glamour Boys bust a long Castle Lager Premier Soccer League win-less run spanning 11 matches.

Mandivei nodded home the winner after 43 minutes to erase the jinx that had followed DeMbare for close to three months.

The defender, however, could not join his teammates in the ecstasy that followed his goal, choosing to show respect to his former paymasters.

Yadah finished the game with 10 men after their left-back Josiah Daka was shown red with 15 minutes remaining.

Dynamos coach Saul Chaminuka was a relieved man as the journeyman coach notched up his first win in his five games in charge of the team, following his arrival from Kwekwe United.

“I want to thank God and like I’ve always said, the players will grow in confidence. I’m really happy for the team. Whoever we are going to play, whether we’re playing at home or away, I am sure we will be able to give them problems,” said Chaminuka.

The soft-spoken DeMbare mentor was convinced they could have won more convincingly yesterday had his players done justice to the chances that came their way especially in the second half.

He was also not happy with the referee’s decision to chalk off Frank Agyemang’s goal following a hotly disputed offside decision when the teams were still deadlocked 0-0 late in the first half.

The Ghanaian forward then fluffed two realistic scoring opportunities late on, guilty of poor decision making on both instances.

Yet this was still a sweet victory for the Glamour Boys, despite the poor turnout by their fans at Rufaro yesterday.

Dynamos, who missed captain Emmanuel Jalai for the second game due to an injury he picked up during national team duty, had last won a match on March 30 when they stunned champions Simba Bhora 1-0 at the same venue.

This was followed by a miserable run of six defeats and five draws and some disgruntled supporters have called for a boycott of their home matches.

Dynamos remained third from the bottom despite the win, with 14 points from 16 games.

They are now equal on points with Yadah but the Miracle Boys remain just one rung above them because of superior goals scored.

However, Chaminuka told journalists they now look to build on the positives from yesterday’s game to work a way out of the relegation zone.

“We could have scored as many as five goals today and, for whatever reason, lateness and sometimes poor decision-making, we ended up giving away the opportunities.

“But I’m sure it’s something that we can work on.

“And going forward, if we can create as many as five good scoring opportunities, it means we are almost there,” said Chaminuka.

Yadah dominated play for most of the first half but could not create clear-cut chances.

Just moments after the referee had overruled Agyemang’s 39th minute goal for offside, DeMbare still managed to break the ice.

Mandivei was unmarked inside the box when a corner kick was delivered into the area by Vusa Ngwenya and promptly responded with a header that bounced once and beat goalkeeper Godknows Gurure.

Agyemang could have given DeMbare the insurance goal late on after beating an offside trap, only for Yadah defender Emmanuel Chitauro to scoop the ball from the line with goalkeeper Gurure a beaten man.

Tempers flared at times and Yadah defender Valentine Musarurwa survived a second booking just before the break after a dangerous lunge on Ngwenya.

But Daka was not so lucky when he dragged down Agyemang after losing a tussle with the Ghanaian on the edge of the box.

“I think it was a game of two halves. We controlled the second half but it was without goals. Congratulations to Dynamos,” said Yadah coach Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe.
