Dynamos to get trophy for keeps

DYNAMOS, with one hand on the Castle Lager Premiership title, could get a new piece of silverware in the event that they are crowned champions.
The Glamour Boys won the league title in 2011, 2012 and 2013, which gives them the right to keep the current trophy for keeps.

That has compelled the sponsors Delta Beverages and the PSL to look for brand new trophy to be presented to the winners this year.

Kenny Ndebele, the PSL chief executive, yesterday said they were aware that Dynamos had won the trophy three times in a row.

However, Ndebele said he could not commit if Dynamos would be keeping the Cup they won three times on the trot for good.

“It’s an issue we still have to discuss with the sponsors of the league. Yes we are cognisance of the fact that Dynamos have won the trophy three times in a row.

“At the moment we have to hold meetings and see what arrangements could be made,” said Ndebele.

It’s understood that Delta are going to announce their position on this issue next week and sources say a new trophy will be unveiled for the league title winners.

Meanwhile, Ndebele said it would be impossible to get all the remaining three rounds of the Premiership games to kick-off at the same time like what was the case on Wednesday.

“We could have wanted that situation to get the games off at the same time but the availability of stadiums is not allowing us,” he said.

Four Bulawayo teams — Highlanders, Chicken Inn, How Mine and Bantu Rovers — have been forced to use the rugby fields at Hartfield for their home matches after Barbourfields, Luveve and White City were closed for renovations ahead of the African Union Region Five Games in December.
