Fadzai Musati is Miss Dzimbabwe 2014 after being crowned at the two-day Dzimbabwe Arts Festival hosted by Great Zimbabwe University. The festival was a resounding success as it showcases several performances by different departments at the university as well as public discussions on various topics.
A musical show held on the last day of the festival saw different artists performing at the event.
Gospel musician of the moment Blessing Shumba, Hosiah Chipanga, Uncle Jaunda, Ochestra Mafaro Chete and ZCC Mbungo Brass Band performed.
Shumba, who is riding high with his new album “NdiJesu”, hailed the organisers for a well organised event.
“This event gave us a platform to learn about the arts industry and we are happy that we performed at this year’s event,” he said.
The musician became the centre of attraction with songs from his current album being popular with the crowds.
Songs “Mwana Wangu”, “Nyaradzai Vanhu”, “Mapisarema” and “Chimwe neChimwe” being the crowd’s favourite.
Chipanga said he used the platform to share notes with several upcoming groups that performed at the event.
“It’s a privilege for artists to have such a platform to share problems and visions and we encourage the organisers to keep the good work,” he said.
“The event was a success because people were committed and we want to thank the University, Culture Fund and the participants who came for the event,” one of the organisers Rabson Wurigahe said.
He said it provided a platform for visual and performing artists to reveal their problems in the industry.
“Our main aim is to see the development of arts industry in Zimbabwe and it explains why the festival had provided some academic discussions between artists and some lecturers,” he said.
