Dzivaresekwa 2 ready for battle

The 2009 Copa Coca-Cola national champions have a team made up of mainly Under-14 age group players.
Mahobvera said after tasting victory at Chinhoyi High at the national finals in 2009, they are building another crop of exciting stars that is expected to set Mosi-a-Tunya alight with attacking football.
“Our team is composed of talented players, the majority of whom are in the Under-14 age category and, according to our policy, we gave them a two-year programme and we expected them to qualify for the national finals next year.
“They surprised us by winning the Harare provincial finals,” Mahobvera said.
The Dzivaresekwa 2 High gaffer feels they have an advantage going into next year’s Copa Coca-Cola tournament because they would bring the same players who will participate at this year’s national finals.
During the Harare provincial finals held at Prince Edward, Mahobvera feels the group stage match against Cranborne Boys’ High, which they won 2-0, was the turning point and the victory boosted the players’ confidence.
“The semi-final encounter against Prince Edward was a real cracker and I must pay tribute to our players who showed character as they refused to be intimidated by heavily built players and emerged 3-0 victors before beating Churchill in the final 2-1,” noted Mahobvera.
The Dzivaresekwa 2 High head coach thanked his colleagues Tafadzwa Kawara and Gumisai Kutyauripo for helping him with the coaching.
Mahobvera felt captain Kelvin Mangiza, defenders Cloud Chimba, Broadwin Zane and Bliss Zita and goalkeeper Takudzwa Makoni were outstanding.
Tinashe Chaka, Kudakwashe Rinashe, Mangizi and Kudakwashe Guvheya are the strikers that have been handed the responsibility to deliver the goals.
“During the national finals we are not putting our players under unnecessary pressure to win but we want them to enjoy the tournament because by qualifying for the national finals they have achieved something.
“As the technical team, we believe in the squad’s capabilities to rise to the occasion and surprise many by lifting the trophy,” said Mahobvera.
The Dzivaresekwa 2 High technical team has given the team a target of reaching, at least, the semi-finals, but if they surpass the target, it will be a bonus.
From the way the Harare champions played from the zonal, district to the provincial finals, Dzivaresekwa 2 High’s major weapon was their midfield that is mobile, creative and keeps a consistent supply line to the strikers.
Tinashe Garachani, Crispen Moses, Gerald Chikazasa and Alwin Thole are the midfielders that are expected to drive Dzivaresekwa to glory.
