Eagles land at Hillside

GOLF players from different parts of the country will this weekend converge at Hillside Golf Course for the Eagles Golf Association tournament.

Hillside Golf Club chairperson, Martin Nyaundi, confirmed that all was in place for the tournament which will run today (Friday) and tomorrow.

“It is indeed going to be a great day and I am appealing to people to come in their numbers and enjoy the great day with our fellow brothers and sisters from different parts of Zimbabwe. “As Hillside, we are not at the forefront of organising the tournament, but we are only providing the venue. However, we are happy to host them as it also gives mileage to our place,” said Nyaundi. This is the second time this tournament is being held after its inaugural edition last year.

This year’s edition will feature players from Harare, Norton, Gweru, Bindura, Triangle and host city, Mutare. Among the players are four female players who will also be competing.

The Intercrete Tiles and Bricks Company bankroll the tournament, which is open to anyone who feels can make it.

In a separate interview with Intercrete Tiles and Bricks managing director, Peter Shonhiwa, said their company, which is based in Ruwa, will soon open a branch in Mutare and fully support the sport.

“This is an open tournament for anyone who wants to play. We started last year and we shall continue to hold and support it annually. Our company is based in Ruwa, but will soon be having a branch in Mutare to fully promote golf in the eastern border city. People should come in their numbers and witness the clutch,” said Shonhiwa.

Meanwhile, the inaugural Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce networking golf tournament has been slated for Triangle and Hippo Valley Golf courses in Chiredzi next Saturday.

ZNCC Manicaland and Chiredzi chapter manageress, Perpetual Guwila, said the better-ball tournament was in partnership with the Chiredzi-based agricultural and agri-processing firm, Tongaat Hulett.

She said the national event was expected to draw members from all-over the country, but was also open to non-members.

“We realised that a lot of our membership is into golf so this will be an ideal platform to unwind and network. Even for beginners that want to learn we have made sure they will be catered for because the main thrust is on networking,” said Guwila.
