win over hosts Mountaineers in a Coca Cola Pro50 Championship match at Mutare Sports Club at the weekend.
Eagles won the toss and went in to bat first but Matsikenyeri’s ton was the only highlight in their 269/9 as most of the batsmen struggled on the day.
Matsikenyeri contributed 110 and no other batsman managed to surpass the 25-run mark.
Eagles faltered at the beginning losing openers Mark Mbofana (10) and Sikander Raza (21) in successive overs and things were not looking good at 107/5 after 23 overs.
Nathan Waller was the second highest scorer with 25 runs while Trevor Garwe chipped in with 23 at number seven. Man of the match Matsikenyeri however ensured six points for the visitors, having faced 132 deliveries and smashing 13 fours and two sixes.
Shingi Masakadza, Donald Tiripano and Prosper Utseya took two wickets each for Mountaineers. In response, the home team’s batting woes continued as they could only manage 152 runs before they were dismissed after facing 38.3 overs.
However Mountaineers skipper Hamilton Masakadza stood out with a fluent 71 from 81 balls but his teammates could not fully complement his efforts.
