EVANS “Earthquake” Gwekwerere continues to make waves in the Harare Super League and says he is convinced he still has touch which saw him illuminating domestic football.
The former Dynamos and CAPS United’s forward said he is eyeing to score 40 goals in the social league, which has many ex-Premiership players, and 20 before the mid-season break.
He is currently the league’s joint top goal-scorer with Touch Power’s Tonderai Gamba.
The duo have banged in five goals each in four fixtures.
Oscar Machapa, who also had stints with DeMbare and the Green Machine, is also on fire for high-flying Agents FC.
He is just a goal away from the pacesetters and his team are in control of the proceedings in the most supported and best organised social league in the capital. Gwekwerere appealed to all the retired footballers to play social football to keep themselves in good shape.
“I have not lost the touch yet, I’m still the same player and I have set myself a task of scoring 20 goals in both halves of the campaign.
“Social league is more enjoyable because you will be expressing yourself without any pressure and I want to urge all the retired footballers to come and join this league or any social team.
“It’s always refreshing to play against these legends, we are always sharing memories and there are people who come to your rescue if you’re having serious financial challenges,” said Gwekwerere.
He added: “We are benefiting a lot from playing social football, and it’s helping us to stay away from drugs.
“When you are seated at home, there’s nothing serious you can do and you end up abusing substances and alcohol.
“But, when you’re playing social football, you can give yourself like two days of training per week and knowing that you are playing tomorrow, you will be forced to avoid taking too much alcohol.”
