adminEasiPark management committee chairperson, Harare chamber secretary Mrs Josephine Ncube revealed this during a recent full council meeting.
She said the matter was referred to the police to allow the city to gain access to EasiHold bank accounts.
“Working with police will help us get evidence from EasiHold bank accounts,” she said.
Clr Herbert Gomba had suggested that the city should have charged Mr Dube without first taking the labour issue to the police.
The suspension was also confirmed in the minutes of the business committee that were adopted by the full council.
“The general manager of EasiPark Harare Pvt Ltd is on forced leave until conclusions of police investigations. It be noted that a City of Harare employee…have been seconded to EasiPark Harare as the acting general manager,” reads part of the minutes.
But the decision to suspend Mr Dube has not gone well with EasiHold of South Africa.
The company has released a press statement signed by three persons Mr Richard Mynhardt and Mr Farzana Mahomed both members of the EasiPark management committee acting on behalf of EasiHold and Mr Mike Clark a director with EasiPark and chief executive officer of EasiHold.
“Until such time as the City produces evidence to substantiate the allegations, Easihold does not agree with the forced long-term leave imposed on the general manager and two other administrative staff at EasiPark Harare,” reads the statement.
EasiHold alleges Harare made unilateral staff appointments, employment terminations and staff restructuring.
“Easihold was not consulted on any of these staff changes,” reads the statement.
EasiHold also alleges that the secondment of an acting general manager implies that the city is now running the business.
“From the week beginning March 25, the City has failed to deposit any of the cash collected daily from parking into the EasiPark Harare joint bank account. This has caused prejudice to the EasiPark Harare business, and to EasiHold,” says the company.
