LADY Chevrons’ stars — Sharne Myers and Modester Mupachikwa — showed their class in the regional games which began yesterday as they powered Northers to a ten-wicket victory over the Southerns at Old Hararians Sports Club.

The two regional teams are set to clash in three 50-over matches in preparation for the upcoming bilateral series against the United States, which is scheduled for next week.

The regional games will be used for national team selection.

The Southerns were sent in to bat first before being restricted to 129 runs in 36 overs.

Christabel Chatonzwa led with ball for the Northerns as she claimed a fiver while Olinda Chare and Audrey Madzishaya each claimed two wickets apiece.

Nomvelo Sibanda picked up a single wicket.

The Northerns struck as early as the first over when Natasha Mthomba was caught by Chatonzwa off a Sibanda delivery.

Despite the early setback the Southerns managed to get back into the game before the Northerns claimed their second wicket of the day in the 14th over through Madzishaya.

The dismissal opened the floodgates for the Southerns as they went on to lose eight more wickets in 22 overs with Chatonzwa claiming her fiver.

Only four batters managed double figures for the Southerns with Chipo Tiripano-Mugeri topping the scores with 46.

Josephine Nkomo was the second highest scorer for the Southerns with 13 runs while Nyasha Gwanzura and Adelle Zimunu scored 13 and 10 runs.

With a target of 130 to chase to win, the Northerns did it in style.

They chased the score in 15 overs without the loss of a wicket.

The Northerns opening pair of Myers and Mupachikwa chased down the target with unbeaten 75 and 43 runs.
