MIKE Eaton of Alexandra Sports Club emerged as the overall winner of the Zimbabwe Clubs Champion of Champions in his backyard on Sunday. The three-day tournament, which started on Friday, featured the country’s best bowlers. Eaton took first place with an impressive 12 points and Highlands Sports Club champion Roy Garden was second with 10 points.
Mark Fieldus of Bulawayo Athletics Club was third. Garden, who will be representing Zimbabwe at the World Singles Champion of Champions in New Zealand, feels he needs to get into a rhythm ahead of the big tournament. “I need to get fit, I will be cycling for the coming weeks and polishing up on the green so that I get fit for my big tournament next month,” said Garden.
In the women’s section, Zimbabwe’s top bowler Kerry Craven won all her eight matches to emerge triumphant.
“I am trying to play as many matches as possible to prepare for the World Singles. Every match counts when you are taking part in bigger events.
“I enjoyed our local Zimbabwe Club Champion of Champions. It was good and competitive,” said Craven.
“I have been practicing on weekends and I use Alexandra’s greens because there are faster since in New Zealand they have faster greens.”
