THE Ecobank Legends Night Africa is receiving growing support from music lovers who say it is a nostalgic journey down memory lane.
A number of fans took to social media to express their excitement over the event which is scheduled for Alex Sports Stadium on September 26. The show is a celebration of music, memories and Zimbabwe’s rich entertainment heritage.
Veteran musician, Leonard Zhakata, will be the headline act.
For many fans, Zhakata’s involvement has added excitement to the event, with his long musical career and popular catalogue continuing to resonate with audiences across generations.
Takawira Maruku, a music fan, said it was important to celebrate musicians who have contributed to the growth of the local industry.
“This is what we need. Give our legends their flowers while they are still with us,” said Maruku.
Another music fan, Tafadzwa Moyo, said the combination of Zhakata and Intotal Band had given music lovers something to look forward to.
“Leonard Zhakata and Intotal Band on the same stage is something worth looking forward to.
“These are musicians who understand live performance,” said Moyo.
Blessing Chikosi, another music fan, said the event was likely to appeal to a cross section of people.
“Legends Night is bringing memories back. We are ready for this one.
“It is going to be a special night for people who appreciate good music,” said Chikosi.
For Rumbidzai Ncube, the importance of the event goes beyond entertainment, as it gives established musicians an opportunity to connect with a new generation.
“We should support events that bring our musical history back to the stage.
“Young people also need to know where some of the music they enjoy today came from,” said Ncube.
Farai Mutasa said fans should focus on the music and allow the organisers to stage the event without unnecessary negativity.
“People should give Legends Night a chance. At the end of the day, this is about bringing people together through music,” said Mutasa.
The positive reactions come as the grand event prepares to bring together local and international musical talent, creating an atmosphere that is expected to combine nostalgia, live entertainment and celebration.
