EcoCash has unveiled a new service that allows users to ask for money from friends or family via the platform.
The “Request Money” service, which is modelled along the lines of the “Call Me Back” feature on mobile networks, is designed to be a fast and secure method of initiating quick requests for money.
EcoCash chief operating officer Mr Munyaradzi Nhamo said the service enables users to instantly secure mobile money transfers from family and friends in cases of emergencies or unforeseen financial needs.
“We are excited to launch this service which offers more choice and convenience to our customers wherever and whenever they need some money,” said Mr Nhamo.
“We believe the service will come in handy for families that stay apart, as in the case of relatives or dependents living in the rural areas or at the farm.
“They will find it much easier now to reach out and quickly request for some money to meet urgent needs.
“The service will also be useful for families or individuals that find themselves in emergency situations, be they of a medical or a personal nature, where they urgently need some money.”
The service will be free, while normal transaction and statutory charges will be applicable to the sender, if they accept the request and send the money.
To initiate the Request Money service, customers dial *151# and select option 1 (send money).
They then select option 6 (request money) and choose option 1 (create request).
After creating the request, the customer is prompted to insert the requested amount, the mobile number of the recipient (from whom they are requesting the money) and give a reference before confirming the request.
The recipient of the request will then receive a USSD pop up on their mobile phone, prompting them to authorise the request by entering their PIN.
Once the request has been authorised, the funds will be instantly transferred to the requester.
EcoCash, Zimbabwe’s most popular mobile money platform and a subsidiary of EcoCash Holdings Zimbabwe limited, is integrated to Zimbabwe’s financial payments ecosystem.
