Econet Golf Cup launched

ECONET’S entrance into the Zambezi Golf Tour, as one of the premier sponsors, is expected to be formalised at Royal Harare this evening.
The Econet Golf Cup is set to be a major event on the domestic calendar.
It is open to both men and women, with the maximum handicap of 24 being the cut-off point for men and the maximum handicap of 36 being the cut-off point for the ladies.

In a statement the Zambezi Tour communications manager, Tendayi Gwatiringa, said the amateur series will be held on a monthly basis culminating in a quarterly Pro-Am.

“The amateur series will be held on a monthly basis culminating in a quarterly Pro-Am and will run for the first twelve months and this will see the creation of a personalised, individual retention and loyalty strategy to strengthen the Econet Wireless Zimbabwe’s trade and subscriber relationships.

“The format of the play is individual stableford.
“There are four main categories for both male and female golfers and exciting recognition will be given to winners and runners-up at all the events,” read the statement.

The event will also see the introduction of an exciting order of merit monthly competition.
“The first one will be a qualification for the race to the Econet Pro Am to be run in conjunction with the Zambezi Tour with the winners and runners-up from the first three monthly competitions playing with professional golfers in the fourth month.

“The second race is called Race to Leopard Creek where after the first six months, the top three golfers on the leaderboard will each receive a package for an all-expenses paid for trip to play at the Leopard Creek Country Golf Club, situated near Malelane, in the heart of Mpumalanga, on the southern border of the Kruger National Park, South Africa,” it added.
