THE Zimbabwe national men’s rugby team reported a full house when the 29-member squad started their camp at Hartsfield in Bulawayo yesterday to kick-start preparations of the Windhoek Invitational Tri-series Rugby tournament set for next week.
The Sables had a busy day as they got down to serious business with their first training session in the morning which was followed by an afternoon workout.
Sables coach Brendon Dawson said he was happy with the turnout after all his players reported for camp on the first day.
“I’m very happy that all the players made it. They are all in camp where we have begun some serious business. It’s encouraging that everyone is putting in hard work. All is looking good, our forwards and the scrums are looking great.
“So far we have no injuries and that is a good sign too,” said Dawson.
Dawson, who has been tasked with guiding Zimbabwe to the 2015 World Cup in England, is also delighted with the make-up of his squad.
“Sean Moen the outside centre, is a very talented player and Daniel Hondo is also another good player in the squad.
“Hilton Mudariki, that young scrummie from England, is another superb talent for the Sables. Looking at the squad, the Sables have a chance of winning the matches,” said Dawson.
The tri-series, which also features Kenya and hosts Namibia, is scheduled to get underway next Friday.
The Zimbabwe squad will spend the weekend in camp and then leave on Monday. Zimbabwe Rugby Union technical director Liam Middleton, assistant coach Cyprian Mandenge and Old Georgians player/coach Grant Mitchell have all been working with the Sables to ensure that they are ready for the event.
