From George Maponga in Masvingo
The zanu-pf Youth League in Masvingo has launched the#EDHasMyVote campaign in the province amid calls for young people to rally behind the tried and tested revolutionary party to ensure an emphatic victory in the forthcoming harmonised elections.
Addressing ruling party members who graced the launch over the weekend ruling party Secretary for Legal Affairs Cde Pupurai Togarepi warned the youths against being coaxed to vote for political parties without a foundation in the country’s liberation struggle.
Cde Togarepi said youths were the vanguard of the revolution and were duty-bound to defend the gains of the liberation struggle by shunning political parties that have a foreign grounding.
‘’The coming elections are not about age but they are about which political party and candidate has deliverables, youths must not be fooled into following political parties and candidates that have no proven track record in defending the values and gains of the country’s liberation struggle.
‘’Youths should be at the forefront of defending the gains of our hard won independence and as the vanguard of the party they should make sure President Mnangagwa and zanu-pf win resoundingly in this year’s election,’’ he said.
Cde Togarepi said zanu-pf was assured of victory in the coming elections citing intra-party fighting in the opposition MDC-T party as a sign that the beleaguered opposition party would not trouble the ruling party at the polls.
He chided new MDC-T leader Mr Nelson Chamisa for presiding over a political party being torn apart by violence and infighting saying the youthful leader was a doomed and failed politician after traveling all the way to America to invite sanctions against the same people he wants to lead.
Cde Togarepi called for unity and discipline among party youths urging them to heed the clarion calls by zanu-pf leader President Mnangagwa for Zimbabweans to refrain from all forms of violence to ensure the country holds free, far and credible elections.
Speaking at the same gathering zanu-pf Masvingo provincial chair Cde Ezra Chadzamira warned ruling party youths against being abused by senior ruling party officials.
Cde Chadzamira challenged the youths to report any senior official from the province who tries to abuse them for cheap political gains so that action could be taken against such characters.
‘’My message to you is that you should never accept to be abused by anyone, zanu-pf does not belong to anyone, the party belongs to us all. We want our youths to be at the forefront of defending the gains of the revolution by making sure the ruling party wins the coming elections. In Masvingo we have already said our goal is to bag all the 26 House of Assembly seats like we did in the last election,’’ said Cde Chadzamira.
The zanu-pf Masvingo chair said the ruling party and its presidential candidate President Mnangagwa were set for a thumping victory in Masvingo in this year’s election as the province belongs to one party.
zanu-pf Masvingo youth chair Cde Brian Munyoro appealed to the ruling party leadership to empower youths in the province and ensure they were not abused by well-resourced party big-wigs bent on fulfilling their political ambitions.
The #EDHasMyVote campaign has already been launched in Harare and Mashonaland West province and the national campaign is aimed at mobilising youths to vote for President Mnangagwa and zanu-pf in this year’s election.
