YESTERDAY we carried an article in which Apostle Daniels said there is no shame in being single and women should not be forced into rushing into marriage when they have not yet found their right partners.
Apostle Daniels and Evangelist Nelly Gwatidzo addressed the challenges many women face in their pursuit of marriage.
The conversation took place during the launch of the book ‘The Waiting Wife’, which was written by Dr Tatenda Matirongo. Apostle Daniels, from Gateway Ministries, highlighted a troubling trend.
Apostle Daniels said women aspiring for marriage often feel pressured to showcase their bodies and appear desperate.
He noted that some women go to great lengths, spending excessively on their appearances and bathing multiple times a day, believing it will attract potential partners. He warned women who are posting themselves naked on social media, in a bid to attract men, that such an approach will haunt them when they get married. He said while fasting and prayer were essential, a woman’s character is her most important asset when seeking a spouse.
He said marriage was a choice, not an obligation, love was a natural force, not something that can be bought or worn like clothing. He pointed out that empowered women, who often have successful careers and financial independence, can unintentionally intimidate potential partners. Apostle Daniels said such women find themselves single and alone, sometimes seeking partners among older or widowed men.
He urged hopeful brides to embrace humility and seek guidance from elders, recalling historical customs where families played a vital role in matchmaking. He said there was no shame in being single, some marriages lead to quick divorces and it was better to be with someone you truly love, even if they lack wealth because riches can come later. Wealth, he said, cannot define true love and happy marriage.
Evangelist Gwatidzo echoed this sentiment, emphasising the importance of self-respect.

We published their comments because we felt what they were saying was very relevant to our society and their powerful message would help some of our women who are dreaming of getting married.
It’s important that these women should not be forced into marriages because, in many cases, such unions do not bring the paradise which they promised. As a newspaper, we have taken a leading role in publishing domestic violence cases. Some of the abuse that we have seen is simply incredible. We have seen that in many of these cases, the two people rushed into a union when it was very clear that they didn’t have the love which is needed to sustain such partnerships. Without true love, there is no marriage to talk about.
When you have a couple which is bound by true love, you can see that they are able to deal with very complex issues which confront and even threaten their marriages.
When there is no true love, even small issues are escalated and result in domestic violence and divorce.
