EDITORIAL : Come on DJ Fantan, Gamu can’t use us

DJ Fantan came up with a crazy explanation last week about the challenges which have led to the collapse of his marriage.

He claimed that his estranged wife, Gamu Nemukuyu, was using us to have a go at him.

“It is with great sadness that I make this statement. I’m sure by now everyone has heard zvanga zvichinyorwa against me mubepa nhau,” the artist said.

“I have truly been dragged through the mud asi handidi kutaura zvakaipa pamusoro pa amai ve vana vangu.

“Creche inopinda mwana wangu ane 3yrs inondipupurira kuti the child’s fees are fully paid and my child even has new school uniforms.

“I am broken because I do not have access to my children even though I send money for groceries. When I read the newspaper reports I hear claims that are unheard-of.

“I am a victim of abuse because ever since I was dragged to the courts I have suffered damage emotionally and on my personality.

“Ex-wife yangu arikushandisa H-Metro to blackmail me and all I just wish for is we separate peacefully. To the press (H-Metro) please I beg you to balance your stories because these stories you write affect my innocent children.”

Well, we believe DJ Fantan is entitled to his views.

But, we categorically disagree with him that we are being used by his estranged wife to fight her battles with him.

That’s pathetic from him because he knows fully well that Gamu can’t use us and we merely report things as they happen.

We are not responsible for the drama that they have created for themselves and he should take responsibility for the mess that he finds himself in.

We have no beef against DJ Fantan and we admire him as an artist who has done a lot to promote his brand of music.

There is no doubt that he is a hard working young man and he has also changed the lives of many other artists, who have passed through his stable.

We don’t go out looking for negative stories and it is our wish to celebrate the day when DJ Fantan will win a Grammy award.

We will write it in BOLD letters and cover the story on our front page.

But, having said that, we have to make it clear that we are not employed to be public relations officers for DJ Fantan, in particular, and artists, in general.

It’s our job to write about the good, the bad and the ugly.

We don’t create the stories, we just report what is happening and we know that, sometimes, it might not make for some pleasant reading.

Fame comes with a certain price and, the world over, celebrities know that they will pay in the event they do something which society considers to be wrong.

It’s as simple as that.

What our good DJ doesn’t want is for us to tell any story, which he considers negative, when it comes to him.

No, brother, it doesn’t work like that and Gamu can’t use us.
