Editorial Comment: Don’t fake or force love

FINDING a reliable and trustworthy partner is every suitor’s dream.

Such partners are hard to come by nowadays.

The majority of partners we meet in today’s world appear to be pretenders, fortune-seekers and time wasters.

The sad reality, in most affairs these days, is that most partners are now after riches and not love.

Once the fortunes show signs of waning, it spells the end of most of these affairs.

This new trend of fortune-hunters, hiding under the banner of love, has destroyed the whole essence of falling in love.

Back in the day, genuine love was known to bring happiness, relief and a sense of pride.

It would heal and ease the burdens, which come with the challenges we face in life.

But, nowadays, most of that appears to have vanished.

Although true love still exists, it can only be found by God’s favour, especially in this era, when most people appear to be chasing after money.

This now calls for couples to give room for disappointment once these affairs end prematurely.

Failure to leave room for disappointment has seen most affairs ending in tears. In the worst scenarios, this has also fuelled a surge in crimes of passion.

By committing crimes of passion, this defeats the whole purpose of falling in love.

In yesterday’s issue, we carried a story involving a suspected cougar, who clashed with her boyfriend, after the affair turned sour.

The matter has since spilled into the civil courts, where the sugar mama lost her protection order application, against her former lover.

During the court hearing, it emerged the boyfriend started off as the cougar’s personal driver.

Afterwards, the two became lovers and started cohabiting.

Besides cohabiting, the cougar would pamper her lover with gifts.

To the woman, she never imagined that the world would crumble for her.

All hell broke loose when the man decided to walk out, leaving her heartbroken.

She is now desperate to recover all the gifts she lost to the boyfriend, after he decided to end the affair.

It’s now evident the cougar had given it all and now the reality is sinking. It also appears the cougar used money, just to sustain this affair, which is now coming back to haunt her.

This is the case in most affairs nowadays where people think they can use money to control their lovers.

The cougar’s case is one of the numerous issues we read in the press on a daily basis.

Forcing matters has always proved to be a recipe for disaster.

It’s high time that couples study each other during courtship to avoid being heartbroken in the future.

By studying each other, couples get to understand the areas they need to work on.

Love should not hurt but should bring happiness, which culminates into marital bliss.

It should not be faked, or forced, by material things.

When this happens, there is a high probability that it will end in tears.
