EDITORIAL COMMENT: Expose evil relatives

VICTIMS of sexual assault, involving close relatives, deserve support to expose these perpetrators.

Some close relatives can be very evil as they appear smart in public and yet they are monsters behind closed doors.

This should come to an end as many close relatives are now behind most cases involving sexual and aggravated indecent assault.

The love for ritual money is prompting men to commit these evil and barbaric acts.

Most of these cases are concealed until the victims get either pregnant or suffer from sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Topping the list of these cases is child rape, indecent assault and domestic violence, which is slowly getting out of hand.

What is disturbing is that there seems to be a surge in cases of sexual abuse involving close relatives.

These sex predators are usually breadwinners, or influential figures, who have the money and power to silence their victims.

Some of the victims conceal such matters for fear of the unknown.

Others are silenced by close relatives who want to save their marriages at the expense of these demonic perpetrators.

As it stands, there is a need to help and support victims of sexual assault on how to report such cases.

Ignorance of the law has also led to some of these victims to remain silent and embrace abuse.

As the media, we have been taking a leading role to expose these monsters.

Honestly, we can’t let this go on while the victims are desperate for justice.

On April 11 2023, we ran a sad story involving an Epworth man who allegedly raped his niece while receiving assistance for school homework.

The 26-year-old perpetrator, who is reportedly at large, attacked the 14-year-old girl on two occasions.

His disappearance from the public eye shows that he might have a strong case to answer.

Shame can drive people to do everything as is the case with this suspected perpetrator.

With the community of Epworth still to come to terms with this case, we can only pray for justice to take its course.

Firstly, the alleged sex predator should be apprehended and brought to book.

He should come and defend himself in court.

We also hope that the police and other girl rights defenders will also play their part and bring to book the accused.

Being a close relative, the man’s moral blameworthiness is high.

Instead of giving the 14-year-old the help she needed, this man decided to turn into a monster and violate this innocent teenager.

The Epworth case should influence other victims to speak out and expose their victims. School teachers, who spend a lot of their time with these kids, should also help young girls to speak out about this continued abuse.

Concealing such matters is not right because it ends up derailing the noble fight to ensure that women are not violated. Sex predators preying on vulnerable women should pay for their sins.
