EDITORIAL COMMENT : Mutarisi tale should inspire our youths

FOCUS, determination and hard work have over the years proved to be an ideal combination, which brings success.

Once combined, and put into practice, chances are that one could be scripting a bright future for himself or herself.

With the blessings of the Almighty, this recipe can turn people, who grew up struggling, into millionaires.

And, those who have made it to the elite league of stars from humble beginnings, will always testify that they never got it on a silver platter.

Success is earned through shedding tears, sweating and, of course, prayer.

For all this to happen, one should always have a dream.

The dream can come to pass once there is a clear vision in place.

It takes a lot of faith and self-belief for success to come our way.

This could be the reason why many success stories we hear nowadays appear fictitious.

On Friday, we carried a refreshing and yet touching story of young millionaire businessman Tinashe Mutarisi’s bumpy road to success.

Firstly, it was the picture of him sitting on a grave of a relative playing mbira, back in the days when the only thing he had was a vision.

A then pencil-slim Mutarisi appeared to be meditating.

The touching picture was taken over two decades ago when virtually nobody knew him.

Today, he is the boss of Nash Holdings, a huge local company with interests in paint, furniture and the arts.

He is one of the great examples of those who started from the very bottom and found a way to reach the top.

Those who know him pretty well will always testify that he was born a dreamer and natural hustler.

His story is a clear example that, with God, nothing is impossible.

Mutarisi, who used to sleep on an empty stomach unsure of what tomorrow holds, has set a good example that we can all get rich once we embrace our dreams and refuse to be frustrated by hurdles.

His case should never be taken lightly by those yearning for success.

The people of Mutarisi’s calibre should be fully utilised as role models when it comes to real influencers who have made it to the top through hard work. Such kind of entrepreneurs deserve special mention, when it comes to the role models, we can easily relate to.

It’s unfortunate that as Zimbabweans we don’t value our role models, who toiled tirelessly, to build their empires.

There is also need for a change of mindset where we tend to believe that foreign motivational speakers are the best people who can tell us how we can improve our lives.

It’s high time we believe in our own celebrities who have made it to the top through hard work.

To those who still doubt our local influencers, it’s never too late to have a change of mind and learn from the best.

Dreams can always come true but what is needed is determination, focus and hard work.
