EDITORIAL COMMENT: Parenting shapes children’s future

INSPIRING generations, building legacies and giving children a bright future should be every parent/guardian’s mandate.

Denying children a better life, sound education and failure to protect them from all forms of abuse should never be allowed to happen.

The children’s future is always shaped and determined by their parents/guardians.

Caring and loving parents will always make sure they pave the way for their children with an upbringing that is exemplary.

Of course, peer pressure will always be there but parents are always the best teachers.

Research has shown that it’s very easy to teach our kids to be role models by the way we carry ourselves as parents, both in the public and indoors.

However, we can also mislead our kids by our wayward conduct, which is a shame to future generations.

In the worst cases, there are some parents who have been disowned by their children, which is not only sad but regrettable.

In yesterday’s issue, we carried a touching story of a leading transporting firm, CAG Transport, which is under the leadership of a woman who at 47, remains a game-changer.

The 2020 Businesswoman Of The Year said while she was surrounded by influential people like pastors and school teachers in her life, she still respects her parents for being the best teachers.

The businesswoman also told this publication that despite coming from a rich family, her parents didn’t allow laziness.

She also defied odds and showed that women can also make it in the once male-dominated fields like transport.

The woman’s legacy at 47 is a good example that we should never give up on our dreams.

Giving up in life should never be an option.

Determination and focus will always yield the desired results in life.

This can only be attained when our parents play their roles in society.

However, there are some kids who grow up without biological parents, that should not deter them from chasing their goals.

In such sad scenarios, society should always prioritise the welfare of such kids.

These vulnerable children should always be given equal opportunities as those being raised by their own parents.

Giving a life-line to a stranger comes with the best rewards in life as shown by biblical scriptures.

Influencers should also chip in and ensure that they impart their knowledge on future leaders to be role models.

However, there are some kids who need special care, especially those exposed to gender-based violence, abuse and even child labour.

These cases should be addressed with due care since these kids are likely to suffer for the rest of their lives if we don’t show them love.

We need to show our kids love and encourage them to aim higher when they fall.

All in all, the right parenting shapes the children’s future.
