Editorial comment: Term Two preparations start now

ON Thursday, the first school term will come to an end with students going on holiday.

It’s a deserved break after they opened the term early January.

A number of festivities will mark this holiday, which might tempt most parents and guardians to travel and spend a lot.

Firstly, the Christian world will celebrate the long Easter holiday running from April 7 – 10.

Many families will travel to their rural homes to catch up with relatives.

It will be followed with the Independence holiday celebrations on April 18.

However, parents and guardians need to spend wisely as the second term, which begins early May, is quite demanding.

Parents should also pay their school fees on time, as well as clearing arrears, so that their children don’t miss lessons.

A number of students usually miss their first week of new school terms with most parents struggling to raise either school fees or provide for their children’s tuck and uniforms.

The last-minute and chaotic “back to school” shopping, which is now common, is not encouraged.

Parents or guardians should be responsible enough and start preparations now.

If there is a need for them to do some side legal hustles, the time is now for the parents to act.

A real parent should go out of their way to ensure that they give their children a bright future.

One of the things parents should never be reminded of is to fend for their children.

As responsible parents, we should always prioritise the welfare of our children.

And, one of the things we should invest in is our children’s education.

By educating them, we are simply giving them a platform for them to have a bright future and better life.

Our children should come first before we spend money on other things.

We should avoid binging without investing in our children’s future.

Parents should also start preparing for the second term, which is quite demanding, as winter uniforms are needed.

Most of the winter uniforms are quite expensive, a challenge to parents and guardians to spend wisely.

Parents should start making savings now in case most schools adjust tuition fees and levies.

Failure to meet some of the school demands will have a bearing on our children as they will end up feeling out of place.

Our children should never be made to feel out of place due to irresponsible parents who cannot plan in advance.

It, therefore, requires parents to act now and avoid embarrassing their children by failing to provide for them.

Failure to meet our children’s demands at school can also affect their performance.

aChildren should be motivated when they go to school to ensure they also perform better in class.

This can be attained when parents play their part and provide for their children.

It should always be our priority to ensure we give our child a future.

Term two school preparations should start now.
