Editorial Comment:Loyal maids deserve respect and love

LOYAL and responsible child-minders and domestic workers are hard to come by nowadays.

The majority appear to be fortune hunters. Their dedication to work is questionable. They deliver according to what you give them in return.

All they want is money and an easy life. Once delays in payment occur, they make sure the employer and their kids suffer.

There are, however, some child-minders who perform wonders and always go the extra mile.

Others are masters of deceit.

When their bosses are around, they give an impression they are angels. But, in their paymasters’ absence, it’s all hell in the house.

They completely change and show their true colours once their bosses step out of the house.

Those who have responsible child-minders should count themselves lucky.

But, it has never been an easy job.

Some child-minders go for months unpaid or are subjected to both verbal and physical abuse.

Others are treated like outcasts yet they look after their employers’ kids.

Underpaying child-minders is a recipe for disaster. This has led to some stealing from their employers.

A surge in cases of armed robberies can also be linked to child-minders who are being ill-treated.

Once you get a responsible child-minder, treat them with dignity.

Don’t take advantage of their situation to abuse them yet they look after our kids.

Last week, we ran a story of a Zimbabwean child-minder who is now making global headlines for her bravery.

Only identified by her first name Lauren, the child-minder saved the son of Prince Harry, Archie, after a fire broke out in his bedroom.

The incident occurred during the Sussexes’ tour of South Africa in 2019.

Archie’s mother, Meghan Markel, recently revealed the incident.

She also spoke about her frustration about the events which followed this mishap.

Archie is the seventh in line to the British throne.

Meghan described how the “amazing nanny, Lauren” was vigilant to save the boy.

The new heroine, Lauren, has demonstrated how important nannies, or maids, are in our lives.

She demonstrated incredible bravery, dedication to duty and showed that being a nanny is a calling.

Lauren’s case is a lesson to other paymasters who don’t value their maids.

This case has demonstrated the important role our good maids play in our absence.

While parents can provide everything for their kids, they are never there all the time to ensure that the kids are safe.

And, it takes a responsible child-minder, to make sure the safety of our kids is guaranteed.

No matter how rich we are, we mustn’t forget the welfare of our responsible child-minders, who even know our kids more than we do.

Responsible child-minders deserve all the love and honour since they go through a lot.

It’s high time we stop looking down upon our maids given the huge role they perform in the growth of our children.

They are always there for our kids and they deserve both respect and love.
