Editorial Comment:Once again, rein in your poodle Mr President

International media yesterday quoted Ms Zulu as saying South Africa was “concerned’’ by preparations for the harmonised elections as “events on the ground were not looking good’’.

With the peace prevailing in the country that has seen all candidates campaigning freely throughout the country, to whom do the events “not look good’’?
It is a fact that the prevailing peace and Zanu-PF’s highly subscribed star rallies do not bode well for all who want to tar and feather Zanu-PF to abet their illegal regime change agenda.

We Zimbabweans are certainly happy with the preparations and peace, and as we speak even MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai who was angling for poll postponement has dropped the lobby and is now for polls on July 31.

Once again we wonder to whom the events Ms Zulu alluded to do not look good?
Sadc has its Election Observer Mission on the ground, so does the African Union.
These two organisations, that are guarantors to the Global Political Agreement that brought the inclusive Government, are better placed to comment on developments on the ground.

The only people we have heard pre-judge the elections are the Western nations that were barred from observing the elections on account of the ruinous sanctions they imposed, and the fact that they come with pre-conceived reports to justify their attempted strangulation of Zimbabwe.

The fact that Ms Zulu and the Westerners are reading from the same script is very revealing, and we challenge Mr Zuma to stand up and be counted.
His continued silence in the face of continued provocation by Ms Zulu implies acquiescence.

We have said it before and we say it again, Zimbabwe is not a province of South Africa, the delusions of South African citizens or even that country’s leadership do not hold sway north of the Limpopo.

Lindiwe Zulu may be part of President Zuma’s staff but to us she is an ordinary South African woman, nothing more nothing less.
While she may have deluded herself over the years by arrogating herself the role of facilitator, Sadc spokesperson and Godmother of our political processes, we would like to remind Ms Lindiwe Zulu that she has no locus standi before Sadc.

For the avoidance of doubt, Sadc appointed Mr Zuma – in his personal capacity – facilitator to the Global Political Agreement.
It was not South Africa or any of its citizens who were appointed facilitators.

We take this opportunity to challenge Mr Zuma to call Lindiwe Zulu to order lest he compromises his role as facilitator.
True to the meaning of Ms Zulu’s first name Lindiwe, which in Zulu means “we have waited’’; we have waited for Mr Zuma to heed Sadc’s call for a hands-on approach to his mediation duties as his reliance on proxies has been creating misunderstandings and procedural irregularities.
Ms Lindiwe Zulu’s recent misguided utterances being a case in point.
