EDITORIAL COMMENT:Report these monsters to the police

SHAMED Chitungwiza Councillor, Gift Tsvevere, has ruined his image after bashing his wife.

In last Friday’s front page, he made the headlines for tormenting his defenceless pregnant wife.

Instead of championing service delivery, he was actually breaching his wife’s peace.

The woman painted a damning picture of the councillor as a reckless drunkard, violent man and promiscuous father.

His wife, Tsitsi Ndawana, successfully applied for a protection order to end the abuse.

She claimed she has not known peace in her marriage due to her abusive husband.

Tsitsi has every reason to be relieved for now after the court ruled in her favour.

She was granted a protection order to end domestic violence being perpetrated by her husband.

For now, she has made the right step in ending Gender-Based Violence (GBV) since her husband has been threatening her with death as well as destroying their property.

It’s sad how a sane man would threaten the people they pretend to love with death.

If beer is giving him problems, Cllr Tsvevere should quit the bottle and repent.

Domestic violence affects youngsters psychologically as they grow up in a toxic environment.

The councillor’s domestic violence hearing came at a time when the world was commemorating 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Vulnerable girls and women were under the spotlight because of the ordeal they have suffered at the hands of abusive men like Tsvevere.

The Councillor has not only shamed himself but those in his inner circle.

He was supposed to lead by example and protect his wife and children rather than be a monster at home.

A Councillor is a powerful man who should promote love and development.

In other countries, Councillors are regarded as community builders who should play a leading role in protecting their communities.

In most cases, they should be on the forefront and protect the vulnerable and those in despair.

They should be marriage builders and champions of service delivery.

However, this is not the case with Cllr Tsverere who has proved to be a violent man.

His wife deserves all the respect accorded to other married women.

Women and children are fragile people who should never be tormented this way.

All they need is genuine love and maximum protection.

We have noted that there are some women who are dying in silence by failing to report domestic violence cases.

Such cases can happen to anyone and such perpetrators should be brought to book.

Concealing domestic violence cases is a recipe for disaster, which should never be allowed to happen.

Victims of domestic violence should report such cases once dialogue fails to yield results.

Failure to handle such cases has seen some of the victims living miserable lives.

The only way to end domestic violence is through reporting these monsters to police.

To all the abusive men out there, it’s never too late to repent while victims should never die in silence.
