Most Zimbabweans hardly appreciate their own stars until they ply their trade in foreign lands.
Locals seem to like or follow them once they make it internationally.
It’s sad how most Zimbabweans find it hard to accept their own stars.
This problem is common in showbiz, sport and science where Zimbabwean stars are being side lined.
They are only shown true love when they make it internationally.
Some have been barred from showcasing their talent to fans in their motherland while others are being discouraged.
This could be the case with South Africa-based dancehall star, Buffalo Souljah, who deserves our true love.
He might not be a favourite for many back home, but he is big beyond our borders.
Like the proverbial prophet, who does not have honour in his own homeland, Buffalo Souljah is a true cultural and music ambassador.
He has won prestigious awards and done international collaborations, but he is yet to win the hearts of his kith and kin.
The Mufakose bred chanter has conquered West and East Africa, and yet he remains a nonentity on home soil.
The Rugare hitmaker got a backlash when he promised to fill the National Sports Stadium.
His concept was dismissed as a pipe dream yet it has been done in other countries.
Nigerian superstar Davido has done it in his motherland.
The same goes for top South African rapper Cassper Nyovest and Congolese star Fally Ipupa, who have staged similar shows in their respective countries.
Buffalo Souljah was never given a chance to explain who he intends to perform with to help him fill up the giant stadium.
Having learnt from the best, Buffalo Souljah should be allowed to fail or make it.
Some suggested he is indeed a dreamer living in fantasy.
They even cited that mega stars like Sean Paul and Akon failed to fill the National Sports Stadium.
He, however, remains defiant that his concept will come to pass.
As Zimbabweans, we need to embrace fresh ideas and new concepts.
Innovators of Buffalo Souljah’s calibre should not be demonised.
All they need is our support.
With the backing of sponsors, he should be allowed to shine.
By dismissing him, we are killing our own showbiz industry.
This negative energy should not be allowed to dampen the spirit or players in the creative sector.
Innovators should be encouraged to take up challenges.
Unity and love have made other nations progress in various disciplines like sport, showbiz and education, among others.
In Zimbabwe, there is a need for unity and love when our celebrities/influencers come with new concepts.
Some of the concepts can help our nation. Dismissing great thinkers and innovators’ initiatives will not help us in anyway.
In short, let’s embrace each other, especially innovators and young celebrities.
