Most Zimbabweans working in foreign lands are dedicated to duty.
Surpassing targets has always been their main focus. Breaking records and setting new standards have also become their tradition.
Their commitment to work and innovation has seen most of them being elevated to powerful positions.
Others have earned themselves both friends and foes for their prowess.
In some cases, they have been targeted by haters for their exploits.
However, this has never deterred them from raising the country’s flag high.
Zimbabweans are hard workers and they have taken that spirit to foreign lands.
Not only are the Zimbabweans in the diaspora hard workers, but they have proved to be resourceful, innovative and dependable workers.
This is the case with the Nurse of the Year, Lorren Khumalo, who made global headlines for her links to the British royal family.
It’s not an easy feat to have such connections in life.
Lorren is the former nurse of Archie, the son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markel.
She once made headlines for saving Archie from a fire outbreak during the couple’s tour of South Africa.
This earned her a lot of faith and trust by British royalty.
Lorren, who has defied odds as a brave and caring nanny, was recently praised by Meghan for her dedication to duty.
Meghan said Lorren didn’t just look after Archie, but took care of them.
This kind of appraisal is rare, especially coming from someone like Prince Harry and Meghan.
And, working for such appreciative employers is indeed a plus.
What makes her appraisal worth mentioning is that it comes at a time when other nurses in the UK are currently on strike.
It has been deemed the largest strike action by British health workers in history. As Zimbabweans, we need to learn a thing or two from Lorren.
She has proved that Zimbabweans can produce wonders despite being demonised in some sections of the media.
Her exploits have shown that Zimbabwe has a skilled workforce that can fit anywhere.
This should come as good news to our tertiary institutions that Zimbabwe is a conveyor belt of a skilled and dependable workforce.
In recent months, there has been a growing demand for health workers in the UK.
While the nation is reeling from brain drain, at least we should be proud that our workforce is in demand in foreign lands.
Such opportunities to work abroad are hard to turn down.
With the majority of Zimbabweans working beyond our borders doing an excellent job, we should never forget bad apples in our midst.
There are also some Zimbabweans rotting in jails after being convicted of criminal activities in foreign lands.
As Zimbabweans, we should always avoid criminal activities and emulate Lorren, who is being praised for her dedication to work.
In life, we should always avoid short-cuts to success and shun easy money.
Commitment to work is the only solution to success.
