EDITORIAL : Thumbs up to police but …

OUR police rank among the best in the region.

They are known for their capability to bust notorious criminal syndicates.

Not only are our cops committed to work, but they are also dependable.

This is why they continue to win prizes and praises.

And in this era of social media, our police have also been hailed for their swift reaction.

However, they took too long to arrest well-known rogue bouncers, Gideon Sanyangore and Blessing Kumunda.

The duo has been fomenting chaos and violence, harassing and assaulting revellers in bars, night clubs and musical shows for months without being arrested.

They would forcibly impose themselves at high-profile showbiz events and end up collecting gate charges, which they pocketed.

A number of promoters like Bodyslam, Tamba Events and 2 Kings are among victims of these scoundrels.

A number of meetings between promoters and the police over the uncouth conduct of these two rascals were convened, but they remained on the loose.

What was bothersome is that these scamps repeatedly boasted on social media that they were untouchable. They dared anyone to try and even declared that they ruled Harare, and henceforth moved from one event to another forcibly collecting gate charges.

It was only after last weekend’s fracas they were involved in at trendy nightspot, Pabloz, which went viral that police began to pay attention.

The two thugs tried to force their way into Pabloz, but the nightclub’s bouncers stood their ground, and they resorted to violence, with one of them even attempting to stab the club bouncer with a knife.

Police came under fire for their delay in arresting the rogue bouncers.

But kudos to the cops, the two were finally arrested yesterday, and hopefully justice will prevail.

Our police should not be reactionary, but proactive. They knew of the notoriety of these bouncers for months, but they left them to walk free and continue disturbing the peace for the public.

The police should never be reminded of how to discharge their duties in this day and era.

As H-Metro, we played our part in exposing the rogue bouncers’ criminal acts on our social media platforms.

We also dedicated space in our print edition, and we will not tire in exposing criminal activities to ensure that the rule of law is observed.

As Zimbabweans, we should learn to respect the laws of the land.

It’s simple, those who break the law must be punished.

Zimbabweans are peace loving people who respect the laws of the land, and as such, all hotheads should be jailed.

We cannot allow morons to taint the country’s image. This is a country of law and order.
