Government continues to prioritise the provision of quality education as a literate nation is key to development, a Cabinet Minister has said.
Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Professor Amon Murwira said this yesterday while addressing guests at the 2019 Pure Oil Industry end of year Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) ceremony.
He hailed the partnership between Pure Oil Industry and local universities in awarding scholarships to talented Zimbabweans.
The scholarship facility has seen two local students Lovejoy Gushungo and Sosten Magweva being awarded scholarships to study Master Degrees in Material and Manufacturing Engineering in India.
“It is a well-established fact that the Government of Zimbabwe has always placed education among its apex priorities due to importance of human resources in spearheading national development,” said Professor Murwira.
“An educated nation is a rich nation and on this front, Pure Oil Industry has acquitted itself well in partnering local state universities to award scholarships to talented individuals within our community.
“This is a great initiative which I encourage you to maintain and expand as education is a key that will open many doors and guarantee our future as a nation.
“I also want to congratulate Lovejoy Gushungo and Sosten Magweva who I understand are the recipients of the scholarships.
Pure Oil Industry has made a commitment to fund at least two Zimbabwean students every year at Universities in India.
The company is involved in a number of social responsibility programmes in the country
The event saw 10 ‘community heroes’ being recognised for their roles.
They received a year supply of cooking oil from Pure Oil Industry.
The 10 community heroes include Gogo Nora Munongi, Pastor Victor of Celebration centre famous for his traffic control role, author and motivational speaker Rabison Shumba and a young boy Samuel known also for traffic control roles at corner 2nd Street Extension and Churchill Avenue.
Tripple S Centre Hope of Trust founder Sidumisile Sibanda, actor Rhoda Mthembe popularly known as Mai Sorobhi and popular Mbare midwife Esther Zinyoro also known as Mbuya Ngwena were also awarded.
