Dhlakama gets the nod

Don Makanyanga in Mhondoro-Ngezi

Rodwell Dhlakama was yesterday appointed Ngezi Platinum Stars’ substantive coach, after three-months acting as an interim basis for the Mhondoro based side.

Dhlakama took over from Dutch man Elroy Akbay in September following a decision by the board to fire the former Highlanders coach for a string of poor results.

He managed to steer head a comeback for the Mhondoro based side, navigating them from a potential relegation battle to a top four finish.

He presided over Ngezi Platinum Stars’ last eleven matches; managing a total of 17 points out of 33 points, and reaching the Chibuku Super Cup final which they controversially lost to Highlanders.

Ngezi Platinum Stars club vice-president in charge of technical, Lysias Chiwozva, confirmed the appointment, during the club’s end of year awards held Wednesday evening.

“Having commanded a gallant comeback in 2019, please join me in confirming the appointment of Rodwell Dhlakama as the substantive head coach of Ngezi Platinum Stars Football Club.

“As the newly appointed substantive Head Coach, I have got no doubt that in him we have a capable and energetic leader who can deliver the big prize for this brand.,” said the club’s vice president.

Meanwhile, after being ruled out of the 2019 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League selection, due to the number of yellow cards attained in the season, Frank Makarati found solace in being voted Player of the year for Ngezi Platinum Stars.
