A district education officer has emphasised the importance of parental support in ensuring that children benefit fully from e-learning programmes and acquire the necessary digital skills to navigate the modern world.
Speaking at Southsideview Junior School Computer Competition held on Friday, Gift Chitoro highlighted the potential of e-sports in identifying talents and changing lives, and called on parents to encourage their children’s participation in this emerging field.
The competition had 37 students participating, with 16 from ECD classes.
“We want to thank parents and guardians supporting their children in attending computer lessons,” said Chitoro.

“A number of elderly people are being helped by these young ones in operating their mobile phones. E-learning is part of the curriculum and we are now in the era of digital migration.
“ICT came to address some issues which affected our parents before.
“Iyezvino mwana akarwara anokwanisa kudzidza arikumba zvaisagoneka kuitika kare.
“A number of parents and guardians get assistance in sending and receiving money through their mobile phones.
“Parents have a big role to play in developing their children. Sports has changed a number of people’s lives internationally and we want parents to support e-sport in identifying talents of their children,” said Chitoro.
The school’s director, Norah Dahwa, rewarded all 37 participants and urged parents to work hand in glove with teachers in shaping their children’s lives. The rewarding of all participants was a way to acknowledge the efforts made by both students and parents in this regard.
“Together we can educate and mould our children for a better life,” said Dahwa.
