EIGHT people cheated death by a whisker after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a head on collision with a commuter omnibus just outside Kwekwe along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.

Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the accident occurred on 5 September around 4PM when a Nissan Caravan truck collided with a Gweru bound Nissan Caravan which had 19 people on board.

“Felix Mazinyo (24) was driving a Nissan Atlas vehicle to wards Kwekwe and upon reaching the 213-kilometer peg, he attempted to overtake a stationery Chevrolet which was giving way to an oncoming traffic so that it could turn right,” said Inspector Mahoko.

The truck however collided with the commuter omnibus which was travelling towards the opposite direction injuring eight people including Mazinyo.

The injured were rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital.

“We appeal to motorists to exercise extreme caution when on the wheels to adhere and observe the rules of the road,” he said.
