POLICE are investigating a case in which police officers allegedly forced an elderly suspected thief to eat raw goat meat.
The incident allegedly occurred at Guyu Police Station in Matabeleland South.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident and said they do not condone acts of pre-trial punishment.
“We are investigating this case and the public should know that this matter will not be swept under the carpet,” Ass Comm Nyathi said.
In video footage, an elderly man, who identified himself as Rich Malinga, admits stealing and skinning a goat, during interrogation.
“I found many goats in my field and I hit one and it died. I skinned it,” he said in response to a female cop.
Malinga was then ordered to eat the raw meat and he complied.
Ass Comm Nyathi said ZRP Support Unit members deployed at Mahenye Police base arrested Lincoln Biya (34), and Witness Biya (29), for stock theft involving 16 beasts in Mutsvuka Village.
Police recovered eight beasts, which the suspects had already sold.
