AWFUL lucka

A woman who thought the gods had finally smiled at her when she picked up an elephant tusk will live to curse the day as it turned out to be a scourge.

If Yvonne Ndlera (34)as claims are anything to go by, then her case is indeed one of bad luck.

Ndlera was arrested after being found in possession of an elephant tusk which she claims to have picked up in a bushy area.

When she told people about her a?lucka? someone reportedly advised her to sell it so she gets money thus leading her to market it.

Little did she know that she was inviting trouble for herself as instead of getting buyers for the elephant tusk, police pounced on her and she was arrested.

It is alleged that detectives from the Mwenezi Criminal Investigations Department received information that Ndlera of Village 4 in Munyamani was selling an elephant tusk.

A team comprising Detective Constable Kadzibwa, Constable Ncube and Constable Karina proceeded to the accusedas homestead where upon arrival they requested to carry out a search.

Ndlera, without giving them a go-ahead, immediately went to her bedroom where she came out carrying an elephant tusk.

Ndlera was arrested and the elephant tusk was taken to Mwenezi Post Office. The tush weighed 3,65 kilogrammes and its length was 84 centimetres long.

Appearing before magistrate Honest Masiyiwa on charges of contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act, the woman pleaded guilty citing that she had picked up the elephant tusk.

Ndlera was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment of which 12 months were suspended conditionally for five years.
