THE third edition of the exciting Trust The Process (TTP) Under-18 Junior Football Tournament came to pass in the sprawling suburb of Dangamvura in Mutare last weekend, with a total of nine teams partaking in the competition that saw Elite Academy maintaining its grip on the annual soccer fete.
Masasi Academy, Elite Academy, Black Aces Academy, Sporting Athletes Academy, Final Touch Academy, CJ Magusheshe Academy, Eastview Academy, P Stars Academy and AC Academy made up the list of teams that took part in the 2023 edition of the local junior football competition.
Pot A had Final Touch, Sporting Athletes, C J Magusheshe and AC Academy, while Pot B had Elite Academy, Black Aces Academy, Eastview Academy, Masasi Academy and P Stars.
In the first semi-finals, P Stars succumbed to a two-nil defeat at the hands of Elite Academy, while Final Touch edged Masasi by a solitary goal in the other semi-final.
In the tightly contested final encounter, Final Touch lost to winners, Elite Academy 1-0.
For the individuals’ awards winners, goalkeeper of the tournament, Wayne Ushe walked away with a US$20 prize money, while the player of the tournament award went to Tanatswa Mtetwa who also received US$20 prize money.
The golden boot award was also snatched by Tanatswa Mtetwa, who found the target six times and also walked away with a US$20 prize money.
The young promising player of the tournament was Tinaye Muchocho, aged 15, who also received US$20 for his sterling efforts.
Third placed Masasi Academy, runners-up, Final Touch Academy and the three time winners, Elite Academy received 20 medals each and a winners’ trophy for being the champions respectively.
Trust The Process Tournament is run by a committee that include different sporting personalities and Dangamvura community opinion leader such as Taurayi Dhliwayo, Chasten Ngondonga, Shadreck Blazio Mazumba, Dione Uncle Countino, Roy Mangaira, Henry Marume, Tonderai Shasha, Lincoln Mangaira and Leeman Ndadzungira.
