Mhungu started off his music career as a member of the Methodist Church choir before switching to the AFM Church where he further honed his talent.
The experience that he received
from these two churches inspired him to take his music seriously leading to the release of his debut album “Tsuri – Trumpet” in 2008.
Now Mhungu has bounced back with his second album titled “One Day” that is a mixed bag of genres like rhumba, jazz, sungura and Jiti to create an Afro-pop beat.
“One Day” is about giving people faith and hope that one-day things will work out well for them.
The issue of extra-marital affairs or “small houses” makes up the gist of the song of the same name in which Mhungu discourages the practice.
In the song, Mhungu shows the ugly side extra-marital affairs especially in this advent of HIV and Aids.
“Musatyaire Madhakwa” discourages drinking and driving which has contributed to the loss of lives on the country’s roads.
“Sophia” is a love song while “Rwendo” is about the journey of life and how it requires people to be always on the look-out for stumbling blocks.
The album – which was recorded at Vibrant Records – is receiving favourable airplay on the airwaves.
Born on November 10, 1979 in Harare, Mhungu’s passion for music started at Sunday school in the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe.
“I went into music because I wanted to put my creative mind to good use,” said the aspiring music producer.
