“We arranged the programme so that we could raise awareness on climate change issues among students. We realised they are the future policymakers and leaders and so we need to help them prepare for the future. Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing the planet and such debates give young people a better understanding of the world we live in and the dangers it faces,” she said.
This year’s debate topic was “Climate change: a myth or reality”. A total of 20 schools participated in the debating competition. ZRP High School emerged as the winner on the affirmative side and won a trophy and US$350. Highfield 1 High School emerged as the winner on the non-affirmative side and clinched a trophy and a US$350 cash prize.
