EMA to submit report on Koala saga

THE Environmental Management Agency (EMA) have asked for time to compile a report on a legal battle between the Katonha twins and Koala Park Abbatoir.

As a result, a ruling previously expected on Wednesday, has been delayed. EMA, represented by Prince Dube of Dube, Manikai and Hwacha Legal Practitioners, said it was not opposing the Katonha application.

“We have been instructed by the Second Respondent that they are not opposing the application,” Dube said.

He added that EMA intends to first carry out its constitutional mandate by inspecting the area in question and then submitting a report to the court.

“If this honourable court allows the Second Respondent to submit the report by May 18, 2026, the Second Respondent will abide by the court’s directions,” said Dube.

Provincial and resident magistrate Yeukai Dzuda told the parties that she had taken over the matter from Magistrate Mkwesha, who had been hearing the case before.

She postponed the matter to May 26, 2026 to allow EMA to file its report.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care who are the Third Respondent did not show up.

The Katonha twins dragged Koala Park Abbatoir, EMA and the Ministry of Health and Child Care to court, accusing Koala Park of causing air pollution to residents around the abbatoir, the nearby fuel service station, and motorists travelling along Seke Road.
