EMBRACE YOUR HERITAGE, LITTLE MISTER AND MISS AFRICA ZIM CONTESTANTS TOLD

FINALISTS in the upcoming Little Mister & Miss Africa Zimbabwe finals have been urged to embrace their heritage as a way of preserving African culture.

The 25 finalists will battle for the opportunity to represent the country in Egypt next year.

They are set to battle on July 7 at Presbyterian Church in Greendale.

The children toured Panyatsime Heritage and Cultural Centre in Chitungwiza where they were told about the importance of knowing their heritage.

Panyatsime was established with the aim of effectively contributing towards Zimbabwe’s preservation of her diverse arts and cultural heritage.

According to the organisers, the tour was part of their grooming.

Shalom Museba, who is the country pageant director, said the idea is to catch them young and make them understand their roots.

“We had to engage Panyatsime Heritage Centre as a way to make the children conscious of the importance of national heritage.

“We want them to know where they are coming from, like they were being taught on what is a gota (boys’ room), nhanga (girls’ room), how to play drums, and do traditional activities.

“They were also taught how to cook using clay pots, cooking sticks and so forth.

“This will then help them understand their culture as Africans and how to preserve it.

“This is an African event and, as Africans, we should know about our culture, what we eat, how our elders used to dress.”

Museba added:

“Last year we were in Nigeria and this time we are going to Egypt for the event.

“The continental grand event gives each participant a unique experience and confidence in their abilities.

“The winners of different years become Little Mister and Miss Africa Ambassadors in their countries, the continent, and globally, promoting and advocating for the rich and diverse African heritage.”

The pageant was founded in 2019.
