‘Emceeing is a calling’

RISING female master of ceremonies, Melody “Melzy” Mapfumo, believes she has a special calling to entertain fans.

Her journey started three years ago.

Today she is on the path of becoming one the most popular female emcees on the night life scene in Harare.

Apart from doing several once-off gigs, she has won some slots with some night spots around the capital.

She hosts Ladies Night Thursdays sessions at Debbies Pub & Grill in Glen Norah.

She also entertains fans at the new-look Londoners Pub & Sports Bar located at Strathaven Shopping Complex on Saturdays.

“After some years doing voice overs I decided to pursue emceeing.

“I have always felt this to be my calling and I am glad I answered the call.

“The response has been good and I’m motivated to keep delivering the best whenever I get on the microphone,” she said.

Unlike other female entertainers, who are struggling to manage patrons in both downtown and upmarket pubs, Melzy has a special trick she employs.

“I have discovered that revellers like female emcees too and that has boosted my confidence because emceeing in pubs and clubs is male-dominated.

“I am to be the best at what I do and I know,” she said.
