THE Luke Watson Lion Heart Foundation, which is chaired by 18-year-old UK university student, Luke Watson, have donated equipment to Special Olympics Zimbabwe.
The donation was held at a ceremony at Prince Edward School yesterday.
The foundation will refurbish three tennis courts at a cost of US$15 000 at the elite school for use by the Zimbabwe Special Olympics team.
The team are preparing for the World Games in Germany in June.
The foundation have also donated a kit, which includes 200 tennis rackets, 200 tennis balls, 200 t-shirts, 50 tracksuits, and 100 medals.
They have also spruced up the Prince Edward tennis pavilion for use by Special Olympics Zimbabwe athletes.
SRC director general Elleta Nengomasha and director for sports development Garikai Sebastian, Special Olympics ambassador Muchadeyi Masunda, attended the ceremony.
Watson revealed he has been working for the last six months sourcing the equipment from donors.
“For the past six months, I have dedicated myself for this to come into reality while in the United Kingdom,” he told the media.
“And, through this fundraising we have been able to have great success, which includes today’s ceremony, which is a partnership between Special Olympics Zimbabwe, Luke Watson Foundation, and Prince Edward School.
“Moving forward, we plan on participating together and resurfacing two of the three courts, at least, to better the training and lives of the special athletes.
“Along with that, we have included BTA, which supports the coaches to develop the athletes.”
Zimbabwe Special Olympics board member, Nyasha Derera, saluted Watson for the donation.
“Allow me to thank Luke for the wonderful gift he has handed over to our beautiful team that is going to represent Zimbabwe in Berlin.
“It is a reminder to each and every individual that no one is too small to make a difference. This is a great exhibit that shows humanity still exists,” he said.
