Emcoz said the seminar comes at a time when arbitration has become a central and contentious labour issue in Zimbabwe.
“The obtaining economic environment has led to a situation where workers appear to go through motions of negotiation and mediation with the intention of heading for arbitration.
“To discuss the issue, Emcoz, at the instigation of employers, will convene a half-day arbitration seminar on 19 June 2012 at the Rainbow Towers,” said Emcoz administrator, Ms Victoria Phiri.
She said the seminar was aimed at informing and appraising their members and interested partners of the preparation required during the arbitration process.
“The seminar serves to inform and appraise employers and interested partners of the preparation required in order to get favourable awards at arbitration to facilitate a win-win situation between the employees and the employers,” she said.
Since the adoption of a multi-currency system in February 2009, most companies are struggling to pay workers in line with the Poverty Datum Line which presently stands at $567 a month.
The introduction of a multi-currency regime in Zimbabwe’s economy meant that companies were starting from zero base in terms of recapitalising operations.
Emcoz is presently under fire from workers’ unions such as the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions over a resolution by its members last year to make once yearly salary adjustment for its employees.
In February, Emcoz said 25 out of the country’s 47 national employment councils were deadlocked over salary negotiations. The body said the struggling firms could also not retrench due to high cost of the exercise.
