A 26-year-old man from Bulawayo’s Gwabalanda suburb has appeared in court facing allegations of stealing approximately US$2,937 from his employer.

Mxolisi Moyo appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Mr Steve Ramaboena, who remanded him in custody until 10 July. Moyo pleaded guilty to the charges.

Prosecutor Ms Josephine Gurazhira told the court that the incident occurred on 25 April at Gasglove Gates, where Moyo had been entrusted with 36 LP gas tanks, each weighing 53kg, to conduct business on behalf of Marvellous Nyathi. However, Moyo failed to account for the cash amounting to US$2,937 that he had recorded as sales, which was supposed to be kept in the work safe.

In court, Moyo admitted to using the money to book a bed and breakfast at a hotel. He also stated that he had saved US$500, which he claimed he could use to restitute Nyathi.
