Jailed for stealing condoms, cigarettes and bread

A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo’s Njube suburb has been sentenced to five months in prison for stealing condoms at Sai mart Supermarket.

Ishmael Ndlovu pleaded guilty to the offense when he appeared before Tredgold Magistrate Mr Maxwell Ncube. He sentenced him to five months imprisonment of which three months were suspended for five years and two months suspended on good behavior. Effectively he has to do 105 hours of community service at Njube police.

Prosecutor, Mehluli Ndlovu told the court that on June 26, at Sai mart Supermarket, Ishmael unlawfully took 6 packets of condoms , two by ten packets cigarettes and one loaf of Proton bread.

Ishmael was seen by Hendry Ndlovu the security guard while busy staching the stolen items into his jacket pockets.

When asked in court Ishmael said: “l just wanted to buy my kid some school shoes”.

Eliciting gasps and chuckles from the audience. But the question on everyone’s lips was: why the condoms?

Ishmael was arrested leading to the recovery of the stolen property which is worth US$17.
