A CHINESE man, who was convicted of stealing US$72 000, which he blew away at a casino from his employer, has repaid the whole amount.
He has been ordered by the court to return home to China.
He was slapped with a wholly suspended 18-month prison sentence.
Yu Yue pleaded guilty to the offence and paid back the money in full.
Magistrate Ethel Chichera said thieving employees should be not be jailed every time but she ordered him to return to China since he’s no longer employed in Zimbabwe.
The 18 months were wholly suspended on condition that he doesn’t commit a similar offence in the next five years.
Circumstances are that between June last year, and April this year, Yue was acting as Osaka (Pvt) Ltd company’s sales person and was entrusted with selling tyres to various customers.
The court heard that Yue was not handing over cash to the company and an audit was conducted by the firm this month.
The company noted that there was a shortfall of US$72 050.
Yue was then asked to produce the money and he said he had blown it away at a casino.
