Employees up for fraud

Minerva Risk advisors, an insurance company, allegedly lost more than $600 000 to its three senior officials who will now stand trial next week. The trio, Tapiwa Taruvinga (30), Masiiwa Magaso (38) and Ali Karigani (38) once appeared in court early last year and were removed from remand after which the State was ordered to proceed by way of summons.

They will now stand trial after the State summoned them to appear in court next week on Monday before regional magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa.

According to the State, Taruvinga was employed at Minerva Risk advisors as an administration officer and his duties included procurement and maintenance of buildings while Magaso was employed as a finance supervisor and Karigani as an assistant administrator.

Appearing for the State prosecutor Mr Liberty Gono, alleged that sometime in 2010, Taruvinga, Magaso and Karigani hatched a plan to defraud their employer by supplying goods and services needed by the company at inflated prices.

Pursuant to their plan, the trio formed various fake shelf companies using names of existing companies namely Hewlet Zimbabwe, First Pack, MCD plumbing office deport, Office Direct, Sanserv and Ultra Guard.
