Empower women, says Macheso

“By empowering women, we also empower the entire nation and the vulnerable across Zimbabwe,” he said.

The Orchestra Mberikwazvo frontman and Red Cross Zimbabwe humanitarian ambassador said the belated celebrations were meant to challenge everyone to honour and recognise the great responsibilities that women have.

“It is commendable that women make the bulk of Red Cross volunteers across the world and my recent engagement with the organisation gives me the opportunity to contribute to women empowerment and capacitate the vulnerable in the society,” he said.
He also challenged all women to stand up and be counted in various sectors in society.

“I urge all women in Zimbabwe and beyond to stand tall and carve their place in developing nations.
“As a musician, I have always pushed for the respect of women through music and that was my small contribution to women empowerment,” he said.

Meanwhile, the all-female music group “Penya” comprising afro-jazz sensations Rute Mbangwa and Edith weUtonga delivered a top drawer performance before a capacity crowd at the hotel.

The group belted yesteryear hits mainly from the neighbouring South African artistes in the likes of Miriam Makeba and Dorothy Masuka.
The highlight of the show was when Jane Chenjerai performed the hit “KwaHunyani” by the late Safiro Madzikatire. Macheso could not help, but join the women in song and dance.
