Empowerment group adds voice to anti-sanctions lobby

removal of illegal Western sanctions on Zimbabwe.
ZYEG president Cde Duncan Chinopenga yesterday said all Zimbabweans, regardless of political affiliation, were feeling the negative effects of the ruinous embargo.
“The West wants us to believe that sanctions are targeted but now everyone can clearly see that sanctions are affecting everyone irregardless of race or political affiliation,” he said.
Cde Chinopenga slammed the two MDC formations for boycotting the launch of the National Anti-Sanctions Petition Campaign by President Mugabe.
He labeled them as “heartless and merciless culprits” who were contributing to the suffering of ordinary Zimbabweans.
“These MDC formations are heartless and merciless and want to gain political mileage at the expense of Zimbabweans.”
The group’s secretary-general, Cde George Ruoko slammed MDC-T secretary-general Mr Tendai Biti for assisting the West in coming up with the contents of the sanctions regime as exposed by whistleblower website, WikiLeaks.
“The MDCs also requested the extension of sanctions and Zimbabweans should stand up and denounce these acts of double standards by these Western organisations masquerading as political parties,” he said.
The national rollout of the anti-sanctions campaign took place last weekend. The campaign seeks to attract more than two million signatures of Zimbabweans as an expression of opposition to the widely-discredited embargo.
