Empty beer bottle assault lands Old Magwegwe man in trouble

A 32-year-old Bulawayo man has appeared in court for allegedly hitting a complainant several times on the head with a beer bottle following a misunderstanding over beer.

Peterson Ndlovu of Old Magwegwe suburb appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a charge of assault.

He was remanded in custody to May 19 awaiting a medical report.

Prosecutor, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the accused person and the complainant are not related.

He said on May 12, 2026, at around 1.50 AM at Marisha Cocktail in Old Magwegwe, the complainant, Tyson Mhishi (38), was approached by the accused person and a misunderstanding arose between the two over beer.

The court heard that the accused person took an empty beer bottle and used it to hit the complainant several times on the left side of the head.

A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused person, he added.
