VICE President Kembo Mohadi has urged people from Tsholotsho and Zimbabweans at large to continue cherishing and preserving the legacy of the late former Vice President, John Landa Nkomo.

He described the late veteran nationalist, who died in January 2013, as a shining example of dedication and service, saying his contributions to Tsholotsho District and the country as a whole will forever be remembered and cherished.

In order to keep his memory alive, VP Mohadi has urged citizens to follow his footsteps and work towards a brighter future.

Cde Mohadi, who was represented by Zanu-PF politburo member, Cde Richard Ndlovu, during the handover of a donation of sporting kits to Landa J High School in Tsholotsho on Friday, said the community should be inspired by the national hero’s leadership and benevolence and carry on his mission by making a positive impact across the district.

The donated consignment was sourced by the late VP’s son, Mr Mpini Nkomo, who is based in America.

“I, therefore, urge all of us to draw inspiration from Cde Nkomo, especially his children, to always be united and work together for the betterment of their families and the entire nation,” said VP Mohadi.

“Your father’s loyalty, dedication and untiring efforts in serving the nation diligently all the time, should not go unnoticed.”

He said the late Vice President was a fearless revolutionary and distinguished son of the soil who will always be remembered for devoting his entire life to transforming Zimbabwe.

During his leadership of the Organ on Peace, Reconciliation and National Healing, VP Mohadi said the late nationalist drove the mantra “Peace begins with me, peace begins with you, peace begins with all of us”, which became a national rallying point for building peace.

“The late Vice President had a vision of creating one of the best rural institutions, academically and in sports, which the Second Republic is now further refining for a better and prosperous Zimbabwe.

“Following his father’s footsteps, the late Vice President’s son, Mpini Nkomo, together with the support of other friends and family dedicated himself just like his father to empower students at John Landa High School,” said VP Mohadi.

He said the school was the brainchild of the late Vice President and was built to include the San community, which had a special place in his heart, as he always strived to achieve the best results for the communities and the entire nation.

VP Mohadi said the sports kit will advance the sport curriculum as the late Vice President had envisioned.

“This is part of the late VP’s vision to empower the San Community and help them not to be left behind. I am briefed that Mpini was very active in sports, that’s why he decided to empower the school with these sports kits,” he said.

“I hope that with these tools, we may find the next super stars in Tsholotsho,” VP Mohadi said, adding that sports help create strong minds and a sense of teamwork.

Some of the sports kits that were donated included soccer, volleyball, netball, chess and badminton.

The construction of the school began in 2007 after the community approached the late VP Nkomo with a request to build the secondary school as students were walking long distances to the nearest high school.

“The school became one of the most advanced and with this donation I hope it puts it in a class of itself, in the sports programme that has been introduced I encourage the school to take advantage of these donated items, appreciate and safeguard them for continuous long-term use,” said VP Mohadi.

He said the mission of the school is to promote and facilitate the provision of high quality and relevant primary and secondary, lifelong and continuing education, sports and culture.

“Also included within these values are co-operation, discipline, hard work, responsibility and truthfulness. In one word, we call it Ubuntu. I hope you students continue to uphold these important values as you continue to grow during and after school,” VP Mohadi said.
